Here are some commonly asked questions regarding the printing and operations of RNJet printers :

What is a Date Coder?

A date coder is a specialized machine used in various industries to apply date codes or expiration dates onto products or packaging. It is an essential tool for ensuring product traceability, quality control, and compliance with industry regulations.

Which technologies are used for date and/or batch coding?

The date coding machine utilizes different methods such as Continuous Inkjet (CIJ), Thermal Inkjet (TIJ), High-Resolution Piezoelectric (DOD), Low-Resolution Electrostatic (DOD), Laser etching, Thermal Transfer Overprinting (TTO), and Hot Stamping to imprint the required information onto the surface of the product or packaging material. This information typically includes dates, batch numbers, barcodes, and other relevant details.

What are printing technologies of industrial inkjet printing?

The common technologies utilized for industrial inkjet printing are Continuous Inkjet (CIJ) and Drop-On-Demand (DOD). Meanwhile, DOD is included Thermal Inkjet (TIJ), High-Resolution Piezo, and Low-Resolution Electrostatic Inkjet.

CIJ or Continuous Inkjet is a non-contact printing system that uses high-pressure pumps to deliver tiny droplets of ink onto a substrate. The ink droplets are then charged according to the desired text or image and deflected onto the product using electrostatic fields.

TIJ or Thermal Inkjet is a contact printing system that uses heat to create a vapor bubble in the ink, which then drives it through a printhead nozzle to the substrate. Each bubble ejects a droplet of ink and creates a desired image or text.

Hi-resolution Piezo (DOD) is a non-contact printing system that uses a piezoelectric crystal to generate high-frequency sound waves that create droplets of ink, which then jet out from the printhead nozzle onto the substrate. This system provides high-resolution and excellent image quality.

Low-resolution Electrostatic (DOD) is a contact printing system that uses electrostatic fields to print on a substrate. It works by applying an electrostatic charge to the ink droplets, which attracts them to the substrate to form images or text. This technology provides low-cost coding solutions with a simple setup.

What is the maximum print speed of the machines?

The RNJet H1+ can reach printing speeds of up to 180m/min.

Our large character printers can print up to 90m/min.

Our small character printers piezo can print at 60m/min.

how much set-up do the printers require?

Our printers are ready for use right out of the box. Installation and set-up could be done in 10-15 minutes (depends on the production line).

What type of content can the machines print?

With RNJet printers, customers can mark and code the following info on practically any surface:

  • variable data
  • lot/batch numbers
  • production dates
  • barcodes
  • shifts
  • logos and images
  • dynamic databases
  • dynamic barcodes such as Data Matrix
  • external info from barcode scanner, scales, etc
  • and much more

Are the printers capable of printing auto dates and counters?

Yes, all of our printers have this functionality.

Can i print at temperatures below freezing?

Many companies cannot print below freezing. But we’ve got you covered. We have a special ink which could print even below 0 Celsius.

Can dual head printers operate on two separate production lines?

Unfortunately, no. You can print with dual head printers on only one production line. The printer has only one photocell.

It is vital that every customer has access to clear information about the product they are consuming. From tracking & tracing to expiry dates, batch numbers, scannable QR codes & more, selecting the proper ink for your project ensures a consistent, clear print every time.

Here are some commonly asked questions regarding ink selection and application :

What types of inks are available?

For TIJ , we offer solvent-based, water-based, UV and food-grade ink. For Piezo, we have oil, solvent-based, UV and food-grade ink available.

What color inks are available?

Solvent-Based inks are available in black, pigmented white, pigmented yellow, blue, orange, and red.

Oil-Based inks are available in black, red and blue.

Water-Based inks for TIJ are available in black, blue, and red.

Food-Grade ink is available in dark pink and blue.

UV ink is available in black and white.

What is the difference between oil and solvent-based inks?

Oil-based inks are odorless and offer the advantage of being more resistant to water and lighter than water-based inks.

Solvent-based inks are used as the carrier for the colorants. This solvent evaporates during printing. The advantage of these inks is that they adhere to a wide range of materials.

How many prints can i get from a single cartridge?

For Hi-Resolution Piezo Models while using a 2 mm font print height about 15 million characters can be printed per single cartridge. For TIJ Models you could roughly get 8.3 million characters (2mm height) per cartridge.

Can i purchase ink from other suppliers?

To ensure optimal performance of your RNJet Printer, we do not recommend purchasing ink from other suppliers, as they may not be compatible with our machines.

for tij printers could i switch ink from water-based to solvent-based or UV or food-grade?

Easily. RNJet TIJ printers (like RNJet H1+, RNJet H2+, RNJet EP-6H+) is based on cartridge-based thermal inkjet technology, that’s why to switch the colors or the type of the ink you will need just simply replace the cartridge. No any other cleaning or maintenance are required.

can i switch from oil to solvent-based ink or vice-versa?

Unfortunately, this switch cannot be made because of incompatibility with the print engine.

Which ink type is most suitable for my application?

A few factors need to be considered when choosing the right ink for your production needs:

1) What kind of substrate will you be printing on? Is the material porous (cardboard, paper, non-finished wood), or non-porous (glass, metal, plastic).

2) What type of environment will the product be exposed to during its lifecycle? Take into account temperature range, humidity, presence of chemicals, etc.

3) How important is the ink’s drying time? Does your application require a fast dry ink?

4) What types of adhesion characteristics does the print require? Strong adhesion, durability, indelibility?
