U-shaped (fork) sensor is typically used to detect labels on print-and-apply labeling systems so that each label is printed in the correct position. The label web passes through the U-shaped sensor before reaching the printhead. Each time the sensor detects the gap between labels, it sends a trigger signal to the printer, ensuring that the print begins at the same position on every label, resulting in precise and repeatable print placement.

A U-shaped (fork) sensor is installed on the label applicator so that the label web passes through the sensor’s slot. The sensor detects the gap, notch, or registration mark between consecutive labels and sends a signal to the applicator controller.

This signal is used to:

• Detect the position of each label.
• Feed exactly one label at a time.
• Synchronize the label dispensing cycle.
• Trigger the inkjet printer to print variable information in the correct location on each label.
